ISS-USA provides background checks for individuals in many circumstances, such as an individual wishing to adopt from, or wishing to have a child placed or visit from another country.
Background checks often include a criminal background check (CBC) or child abuse registry check (CARC).
CBCs must be requested by the individual concerned. CARCs are state-specific. Rules for release of a CARC (if allowed) vary greatly.
Please be aware that not all countries provide CBCs or CARCs.
ISS-USA also provides searches for parents for the purpose of establishing Parental Responsibility when a child is in the U.S. foster care system and the parent has returned to his/her country of origin. If a parent is not found, then the court may opt to terminate parental rights.
Finally, ISS-USA also provides searches for marriage, birth and death certificates.
