ISS-USA is joining the Global #GivingTuesday Movement to Celebrate Year-End Charitable Giving

What is #GivingTuesday?

#GivingTuesday, taking place December 3rd, is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage giving and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Now in its 8th year, nearly every country on earth is participating in #GivingTuesday. The goal is to create a massive wave of generosity that lasts well beyond that day, and touches every person on the planet.

How can I help?

As participants in #GivingTuesday, ISS-USA is encouraging individuals to act as advocates for the mobilization of our global social service network by making a donation between now and December 3rd. With the support of our donors, the hardworking social workers, caseworkers, and legal professionals who make up our global network can ensure the safety and continued care of the children, adults, and families who have become vulnerable due to migration and other issues.

ISS-USA’s Reunification and Reintegration in Guatemala Program is a great example of our activism. Families in the program receive comprehensive support services for six months after reunification. Each family is partnered with a social worker who visits the family prior to the child’s return, works with the family to understand their individual needs and to develop a comprehensive reintegration plan. The social worker then accompanies the child’s reception in Guatemala and makes sure the child arrives safely home. Over the next six months, the social worker helps the child and his or her siblings enroll in school, access medical and mental health services, support the parent’s access to vocational or skill-building programs, coordinate with local protection officials, and provide other basic household items to help stabilize the family situation.

As you come together with your friends and family this holiday season, consider #GivingTuesday as an opportunity to support vulnerable families. International Social Service, USA (ISS-USA) has been working across international borders for 90 years to connect children, adults, and families to the support and social services they need. With proper funding, the International Social Service global network is able to work effectively to support repatriating citizens and the reunification of families.
